How to Obtain a Mental Health Care Plan

  • Step 1: Make an Appointment with Your GP, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician

To start the process, book an appointment with your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. When scheduling, inform the receptionist that the purpose of your visit is to discuss a Mental Health Care Plan, as this will ensure adequate time is allocated for your consultation. If you’re with Wellvue, your psychiatrist can help you with this process during your consultation.

  • Step 2: Consultation

During the appointment, your healthcare professional will discuss your symptoms, concerns, and how these have impacted your life. They might ask you to complete a simple health questionnaire to better understand your mental health. Based on this evaluation, they will determine whether a Mental Health Care Plan is appropriate for you.

  • Step 3: Developing the Plan

If a Mental Health Care Plan is deemed necessary, your healthcare professional will work with you to set goals and identify the types of services and treatments that will help you achieve them. This typically includes a referral to allied health professionals such as psychologists, social workers, or occupational therapists. The plan will usually start with a referral for an initial six sessions, followed by a review to determine if further sessions are needed. Your Wellvue psychiatrist can guide you through this process and provide referrals as needed.
