How Much Does a Mental Health Care Plan Cost?

When obtaining a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, there may be an out-of-pocket cost, as many GPs do not bulk bill. Medicare provides a rebate for these consultations, but you may need to pay the gap between the rebate and the GP’s fee.

Alternatively, at Wellvue, if you’re already seeing one of our psychiatrists, they can create your MHCP during your consultation at no additional charge. This plan allows you to access Medicare-subsidised sessions with allied health professionals, such as psychologists, through the Better Access initiative.

Please note, while your MHCP helps reduce the cost of seeing a psychologist, most providers do not bulk bill. You may be required to pay a “gap fee,” which is the difference between their full fee and the Medicare rebate. We recommend discussing fees with both your GP or psychiatrist and the psychologists or allied health professionals you’re referred to in order to understand potential costs upfront.
