What is Covered Under Medicare?
Medicare provides rebate for telehealth services, including psychiatric, psychological, and some allied health consultations. This enables you to access care from your healthcare provider remotely, wherever you are in Australia. Here’s what is covered:
Psychiatric Telehealth Services:
Medicare rebates are available for telehealth consultations with psychiatrists, covering assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and ongoing management of mental health conditions. Telehealth makes it easier for patients to access care, especially those in rural or remote areas.
Psychological Telehealth Services:
Medicare partially covers telehealth sessions with psychologists, typically through a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This includes rebates for up to 10 individual sessions per year, allowing you to receive therapy remotely.
Allied Health Telehealth Services:
Medicare also provides rebates for telehealth consultations with allied health professionals (e.g.,Dieticians, social workers and occupational therapists), typically as part of chronic disease management plans or mental health care.
Please note that Wellvue practitioners charge a gap payment, meaning there will be out-of-pocket expenses as Medicare only partially covers the costs of telehealth services.
