Refer a patient to Wellvue
Wellvue accepts GP referrals to online psychiatrists and psychologists across Australia. We also accept referrals from specialists and other health professionals.
Our clinicians provide online mental health care to patients for a variety of conditions, including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, sleep difficulties and other mental health presentations where telehealth care is clinically appropriate.
We accept referrals for patients aged 12 and older, where telehealth is clinically appropriate and a suitable clinician is available.

ADHD referrals: assessment, workup and ongoing care
ADHD referrals can be complex for GPs. Patients may need diagnostic clarification, physical health review, medication advice, controlled medicine prescribing, monitoring, dose adjustment and longer term care planning.
We recognise that GPs are often managing this workup in the middle of a busy clinic. Please do not delay a referral because every item is not yet available. Send the referral with the information you have, and our team will review what is needed.
Wellvue is not a single assessment ADHD service
Wellvue provides a structured ADHD care pathway rather than a one off assessment that leaves the patient and GP to manage the next steps alone.
After assessment, patients may require treatment education, medication commencement where indicated, monitoring of response, side effect review, dose titration, review of comorbid mental health conditions and ongoing care until clinical stability is achieved.
Structured ADHD assessment
Wellvue clinicians assess ADHD in the context of the patient’s broader mental health, developmental history, physical health, substance use history, medication history and functional impairment.
The assessment pathway may include review of current symptoms, childhood history, collateral information, previous reports, rating scales, comorbid mental health conditions, medical history and relevant investigation results.
Helpful physical health workup
Helpful information in your referral can include:
-
Blood pressure and heart rate
-
Height and Weight
-
Current Medications
-
Cardiovascular History
-
History of fainting, seizures, arrhythmia, hypertension or cardiac disease
-
Family history of sudden cardiac death or significant cardiac disease
-
Basic blood tests, where clinically indicated, including FBC, UEC, LFT, TFT, iron studies, B12, folate and vitamin D

Shared care support where appropriate
Wellvue recognises the important role GPs play in long term patient care. Where shared care is suitable, we aim to support the GP with clear correspondence, treatment rationale, medication information, monitoring guidance and advice about when specialist review may be required.
Shared care or GP prescribing support may be considered on a case by case basis, in consultation with the treating psychiatrist and subject to state or territory prescribing requirements. It cannot be guaranteed before assessment and may not be appropriate for every patient.
Medication decisions are made by the treating psychiatrist after assessment. ADHD medication, including stimulant medication, cannot be guaranteed before assessment.
Supporting GPs across Australia
Wellvue works closely with GPs and practice teams to make mental health referrals clearer, safer and easier to navigate.
Our team regularly engages with GPs through education, practice communication and conference attendance. These conversations help us understand the challenges GPs face when referring patients for ADHD assessment, psychiatric review, medication advice and ongoing mental health care.
This feedback helps shape our referral pathways, communication with referrers and support for shared care where clinically appropriate.
For complex or uncertain referrals, GPs and practice teams are welcome to contact Wellvue before sending a referral.

Patients who may need a different or more urgent pathway
Wellvue provides telehealth mental health care and is not an emergency or crisis service. Our clinicians are committed to delivering high quality, safe and appropriate mental health care. For some patients, that means a local, urgent, face to face or public mental health pathway may be more appropriate than telehealth.
Wellvue may not be suitable for patients with:
-
Immediate risk of suicide or serious self harm
-
Immediate risk of harm to others
-
Acute psychosis/Schizophrenia
-
Acute mania
-
Severe behavioural disturbance
-
Delirium or acute confusion
-
Severe eating disorder with medical instability
-
Severe substance withdrawal or need for detoxification
-
Need for compulsory treatment
-
Need for inpatient admission
-
Need for intensive community mental health support
-
Inability to safely participate in telehealth
For urgent mental health concerns, please use local crisis, emergency or acute mental health pathways.
