Dr Jamie Carey

Dr Jamie Carey is a psychiatrist based in Melbourne with a passion for providing patient-centred mental health care. He completed his medical degree with Honours at Monash University before undertaking specialist psychiatric training at The Alfred Hospital. During his fellowship, he took on a leadership role, supporting the education and development of junior doctors in training.

Dr Carey is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and has a Master of Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne. He brings a thoughtful and evidence-based approach to his work, ensuring patients feel heard, respected, and supported throughout their mental health journey.

Approach to Mental Health Care

Dr Carey believes that good mental health care starts with listening. He takes the time to understand each person’s experiences, challenges, and strengths, creating a non-judgmental space where patients feel comfortable sharing their concerns. His approach is transparent and collaborative, ensuring that treatment plans are tailored to the individual and grounded in the latest evidence.

He provides support for a range of conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and grief & loss. His clinical style focuses on empowering patients with practical strategies to improve their well-being while maintaining a compassionate and understanding approach.

Outside of psychiatry, Dr Carey values a well-rounded life. He stays active, enjoys reading, and appreciates time spent reflecting on new ideas. He believes in the importance of balance, both in mental health and in life as a whole.
